250 Miles
We made it to Louisville!
The drive through Ohio was what I imagine Kansas looks like.
Flat farm fields. It’s amazing how one farmer can manage all of that land. Most
of the fields look to be corn fields. I wondered how the farmer harvested and
readied the corn for market. Dad said we could go to Pennsylvania in the fall
to find out. I don’t think so. (For those of you who don’t know Pennsylvania is
my least favorite state)
Once we got to Kentucky, the greetings changed to “Howdy”
and the landscape changed to rolling green hills sprinkled with farms. Very
beautiful. We are staying at the Kentucky Expo about 4 minutes from Churchill
Downs. It is amazing that we are actually here. Dad and I both agree Churchill
Downs is much larger than we anticipated.
Koger is the local grocery store here. We picked up a few
groceries and noticed both of these:
Koger is responsible for creating the blanket of flowers for
the Oaks and Derby winner.
The top of all the grocery check out lines are race horses.
We checked out in the grocery line with the race horse #4, that was Wicked
Strong’s number. He is named in memory of the marathon bombing victims and a
portion of the winnings will go to the One Fund. Needless to say, he’s my pick.
Off to pick up Mom tomorrow!
