Exploring Louisville
As you can see, there are multiple ways to pronounce
Louisville.
Mom, Dad and I started our day at the visitor center,
followed by a trolley tour to get an understanding of the layout of the city.
Overall, Louisville appears to have been run down and is now being revived
neighborhood by neighborhood. The up and coming parts of town are nice and
interesting. We had a delicious lunch at a new farm to table restaurant.
It appears Louisville looks up to New York. Their restaurant
rating system is similar, they are preserving the facades of all the old
buildings because of they are cast iron (New York is the only city with more
cast iron), and the city just finished a bridge/sky walk. It will be
interesting to see what the city becomes in 10 years.
Two interesting photos for today:
On St. Paul’s Place is a street with the old mansions (only
100 years old) of Louisville. One old tree needed to be cut down. Instead of
cutting it to the ground, Louisville hired a wood carver to create this
sculpture. He is the lantern lighter for the street.
Above is the Derby Clock. At noon, three and six pm the
clock holds a race. The music and announcements are similar to that of the
actual derby. Unfortunately, it is currently not working, but we watched a
youtube video there at 3pm.
Tomorrow we are off to the Oaks! We went to the store this
afternoon so that I could get an official Derby Pie. I can’t wait to try it
tonight!
