Day Fourteen

Shreveport, LA to Grand Prairie, TX
197 Miles

We left Louisiana this morning and couldn’t wait to get to drier air. Texas is about 20 minutes from Shreveport. The landscape was not that much different. Cornfields, and small ranches did replace the swampland. Another promising sign was the casino and gas station combos are now non-existent. They were common in Louisiana.

We arrived in Grand Prairie by noon, and were happy to find our campsite is right on a lake. Most of our campgrounds thus far have been city or suburban. This is very refreshing.

This afternoon we went to Fort Worth, TX and visited the Stockyards Station. It is a small recreation of what the stockyards looked like years ago. There were numerous tourist shops, but we were looking forward to the cattle drive. Cattle drivers drive Texas Longhorns, with overall horn expanse of 6 feet, up the center of town twice a day (11am and 4pm). Unfortunately, thunderstorms rolled in and due to the lightening they did not drive the cattle.

Tomorrow, we are off to explore Dallas. In the morning we will visit the George W. Bush Presidential Library, and in the afternoon the Sixth Floor Museum which explains the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
