Day Thirteen

New Orleans, LA to Shreveport, LA
328 miles

We left the humidity in New Orleans this morning. The area near the Gulf gets extremely humid.

The majority of our drive was in swampland. It is amazing how much of Louisiana is swamp. It is fair to say that 40% of the highway we drove on was elevated.

It was interesting to see the different crops growing throughout the state. These consist of sugar, corn, and rice which is primarily for crawfish. Dad and I weren’t sure what the flooded fields were at first. It turns out farmers grow rice in the flooded fields for the crawfish to eat and then trap the crawfish.

We are both glad to be out of the swamp, although we realize Texas will most likely be the exact opposite.

Off to Dallas tomorrow!
