Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Hubbell Trading Post
We had a wonderful day! I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect
in the Painted Desert/ Petrified For est National Park, but it was fabulous!
The Painted Desert is divided into three colors: red, pink,
and blue according to the park rangers. The pink was by far my favorite. The
colors and the expanse were incredible. This is only a portion.
The park also has Native American ruins. Here are symbols
written by the Native Americas many years ago.
Next we went to the blue section of the park. As you can
see, the color changes are truly spectacular.
The Petrified Forest is adjacent to the Painted Desert.
These are trees that are over 200 million years old that have fossilized. One
tree created a bridge.
Here is a scattering of tree pieces. If you touch the petrified
tree, it feels like a rock. We bought a piece to bring home.
This is an up close of a cross cut.
After lunch we went to the Hubbell Trading Post. We had high
hopes that it would be extremely large and a central trading place for Native
Americans. It was quite small, and it appears the buildings are all original.
Tomorrow is a travel day to Alamosa, Colorado. I can’t wait
to see the Rockies!
