Day Twenty Seven

Golden, Colorado to Moab, Utah
348 Miles

We should start with last night, where we had a horrible thunderstorm and even a tornado warning. Luckily we never saw the tornado, but the storm was intense.

This morning we left for Utah. I really enjoyed Colorado. It was sad to leave the Rockies officially behind, but here are some photos of our journey.

Along 70 West are abandoned mines from the Gold Rush era. This one is restored and well cared for. Although some are a collection of old boards that once created bridges and tracks.

We crossed our last mountain pass today, Loveland Pass. It was no big deal at all. Clearly Wolf Creek Pass prepared us. Every pass after that seemed like a breeze. The weather was a winter wonderland. Last night it snowed, and this morning we drove through sleet.

Along the pass are runaway lanes.

If you loose your brakes and cannot slow down your truck, and I suppose car, you can take one of these steep lanes to regain control. Just hope no one else comes up behind you!

The signs informing you of your descend are a bit humorous.

The most gorgeous part of our drive today was through Glenwood Canyon. It was a stunning. Colorado really spoiled us with its breath taking landscape.

The west side of the Rockies is much more arid than the east.

We entered Utah around 1pm. Most of the drive was arid similar to above, but when we approached the Arches National Park the dirt on the mesas turned a burnt red.

We are off to Arches National Park tomorrow!
