The Kentucky Derby
A Once in a Lifetime
We had a fantastic day at the Kentucky Derby. Never in my
life did I think I would actually be present and less than 50 feet away from
the Derby race. Mom and I placed bets, unfortunately we didn’t win, but we
learned a lot about the betting lingo and had tons of fun!
We arrived at Churchill Downs around noon. It was sunny and
70 today. Perfect weather. Here is a statue of Barbaro, notice the carrots and
roses sprinkled at the base. (The Derby is the “Run for the Roses”)
After some photo ops, we headed to the paddock to view the
horses of race 8. It was exciting to view the horses, jockeys, owners, trainers
and families.
Race 8 was a turf race. Those are truly the best, because
they are so beautiful.
Before the Derby (Race 11) we ventured to the infield. It
was definitely an experience. We quickly absorbed and headed back to our seats.
The excitement before the running of the Derby can’t be explained. It is
exhilarating. Wicked Strong came in fourth, but I wouldn’t trade the experience
for the world.
On the way out I got a shot of the van that delivered the
rose blanket for the Derby winner.
Today was a historical day in my life. It was wonderful to
share it with my Mom and Dad. We had fantastic weather and were in the second
largest crowd of the Kentucky Derby. A day we will never forget.

P.S. These were at the grocery store this morning. They were super cute.
