Day Forty Eight

Yellowstone

Today was our first day exploring Yellowstone, and our focus was to take in as much wildlife as we could. Keep in mind Yellowstone is the size of Rhode Island and Delaware put together.

Here are our sightings.

A bald eagle:

Buffalo:

The herds we saw ranged from 4-200. Due to the time of year were able to see lots calves too. And yes, the buffalo do cause traffic delays. Not only do they cross the road, but they choose to walk down it a ways too.

Pronghorns:

Osprey whose chick just hatched a few days ago:

Swallows:

Their nests made of mud and sticks amaze me. It is completely hollow inside and is commonly suspended on sides of buildings and highway overpasses.

Elk:

We were also able to see two newborn calves with spots on our way out of the park.

It was truly spectacular to see the variety of wildlife. Hopefully tomorrow we will see a grizzly bear and her three cubs (from the car).
