Day Forty Nine

Yellowstone

We drove over 100 miles in Yellowstone today. Our focus was to see the geological features of the park, namely the hot springs and geysers.

There are numerous hot springs and geysers. Here is a photo of one grouping. The steam is approximately 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

Due to the variety of elements in the water, the colors of each pool are really spectacular.

It turned out to be a cold and rainy day in the park, but we were able to take in an eruption of Old Faithful. The wind took the water erupting.  It was really special to see.

On the way out we were able to see two elk and their five calves.

Our next destination is the Mount Rushmore area. Tomorrow will be a travel day to reach a halfway point.
