Depoe Bay, OR to Connell, WA
347 Miles
Sunset was beautiful last night. Even a seal swam by.
The west coast of Oregon is beautiful, but the lush green
turns barren almost in an instant in the north-central portion of the state.
Overall, the state is quite different from the rest.
First, you cannot pump your own gas. In fact, it is illegal to
do so. Oregon defines gas as a class one flammable substance that must be
handled only by a trained professional. The statue states additional reasons as well, including for equality purposes.
Second, there are no speed limit signs in Oregon. Instead “Speed”
signs, which are four times larger than normal signs. The speed amount is ¾’s
of the sign and the text is minimal.
Lastly, it may be due to the economy or climate (I will have to look into it more), but there
seems to be a large homeless population. More than is common in the city.
Instead of traveling individually, the homeless travel in groups.
The coast is beautiful, but the culture is unique. We are
off to Montana tomorrow. This week is primarily a travel week, but we will be
in Yellowstone soon.
