Day Forty One

Castello di Amorosa

I’m back from a magical wedding weekend. It was truly a beautiful wedding and couldn’t have been more perfect. Congratulations Bonnie and Ivan!

Mom did a great job with the blog, and now I’ll be taking over from here.

Today, Dad and I went to Castello di Amorosa (Castle of Love) winery in Napa Valley. It was lovely.

The castle was built in the early nineties, but is an authentic replica of an orginal Italian castle. Authenticity was extremely important to the owner. It took him 15 years to have the castle built and 210 shipping containers of Italian materials. It was really spectacular.

Every castle must have a well within the castle and a chapel.

The great room was my favorite. It was absolutely gorgeous and would be an excellent place for a wedding.

Two thirds of the castle is underground. There are long thin tunnels that take you underground. I found it extremely claustrophobic at first and wasn’t sure I wanted to go down. After a while you get accustomed to the feeling.

The only way to purchase wine from this vineyard is to buy it there or have it shipped. It is not sold in any store or restaurant. A barrel could be yours for about $10,000. That’s on sale from $15,000. But let me tell you, the wine is excellent. Their merlot is so smooth. We even had the chance to pair wine with chocolate which was right up my alley!

Off to the redwoods tomorrow.
